A voice that fans across the NHL have heard over the span of 50 years has sadly passed away at the age of 78 on Thursday

Considered a legend in the broadcast booth, he was the longtime voice of the Pittsburgh Penguins but now, has sadly gone silent.
Mike Lange served nearly five decades with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization and was a beloved member by Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux and many others who experienced his presence.
Making the leap from being the voice of the San Diego Gulls of the Western Hockey League, to the Penguins in 1974, it was truly a dream for Lange.
Lange left the team after one season due to bankruptcy, where he then served as the voice of the Washington Diplomats, a soccer team, but shortly returned for the 1976-77 season and never left.

Cause of death for Penguins legend Mike Lange

Sadly for Lange, health issues finalized his career with the Penguins as it forced him to leave the broadcasting booth.
There is no confirmation on the cause of death.
Lange has various play-calls which have gone viral, do you remember any of these beauties?
«Buy Sam a drink and get his dog one, too,» «He's smiling like a butcher's dog,» and after the Pens had won, «Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has just left the building.»

Lange was more popular than players within the Penguins organization, until Mario Lemieux arrived in 1984, and they built a large friendship.
Among multiple multiple statements released from hockey community members on the death of Mike Lange, Mario Lemieux hit home with his heartfelt message.
"Mike was a Penguins legend and one of the most important figures in franchise history. It was my honor to have him call virtually every goal in my career and play a key role in all five of our Stanley Cup championships. Mike was a one-of-a-kind broadcaster, a tremendous ambassador for the city of Pittsburgh, and, most importantly, a great friend. He will be missed."
In 2019, the Penguins organization named their press-media level box after him.
May you Rest in Peace Mr. Lange.
