Dylan Strome will be eligible for a qualifying offer after this season. The question now is do the Blackhawks decide to? The qualifying offer has to be at least $3.6 million, which is about what a player of Strome's quality is worth.
The question now becomes, will the Blackhawks get any offers for Strome? Because Kyle Davidson said about the Brandon Hagel trade that he wasn't looking to trade him, he just got an offer that was simply too good to refuse. So if he gets what he thinks is a fair offer for Strome, I would expect him to do the same in this situation. It's just whether or not someone will give him an offer that he can't refuse.
One thing is for certain, if they don't trade him, they almost have to give him his qualifying offer. It would make zero sense to not and get nothing in return should he leave. And it just seems hard to believe that there is not one team out there willing to give up something for Strome. Not expecting the kind of return that Hagel got, but the Blackhawks have to find a way to get something of value back.
Personally, I've been all aboard the "give him his QO" train for quite some time now. Once he showed that he could be a bit more consistent on the top line, I thought he was the perfect player for the Blackhawks right now. That's not to say that he will be the guy in that spot when the Blackhawks are contending again, but he's a great fit for the spot that the Blackhawks are in right now. One more year of Dylan Strome can't and won't put this team in any worse of a spot that they are in currently.
