Golden Knights owner Bill Foley is in advanced talks to buy Premier League club AFC Bournemouth. Matt Slater of The Athletic reported that a group led by Bill Foley has recently approached Bournemouth owner Max Demin. The asking price for the club is $172 million. By comparison, Foley paid $500 million to buy the Vegas Golden Knights in 2016.

Bill Foley is the chairman of Fidelity National Financial, a major insurance company in the United States. The American businessman has an estimated net worth of at least $1.3 billion (as of March 2022).

If Foley takes over the club, Bournemouth fans could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Bill Foley is known for his ability to achieve instant success, as he did with the Knights. As a reminder, the Knights reached the Stanley Cup Final in their very first season in the NHL. This season, Bournemouth has just won two of their six games. They have also lost three straight games, including a gruesome 9-0 defeat to Liverpool a few weeks ago.

Things have not been better for Bournemouth in recent years. In 2008, they were almost bankrupt and in 2009 they were relegated from League Two. In 2015, they managed to get back into the Premier League but were relegated in 2020. At the end of last season, they managed to get promoted again.

It will be interesting to see if Foley takes over the club and if he implements his "win-now" mentality in soccer. For a club like Bournemouth to become one of the top teams, Foley will have to spend a huge amount of money. Hockey is nowhere near comparable to soccer regarding salaries, contracts, and transfer fees.
