In honor of June 24th, now seemed a better time than ever to take a quick look back at the career of Doug Wilson. Wilson is without a doubt the best player to wear the number 24 for the Chicago Blackhawks. And it will take a very special player to come along and take that title from him.
Doug Wilson was the number 6 overall pick for the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1977 NHL draft. He would go on to play a total of 16 seasons in the NHL, 14 of them for the Chicago Blackhawks. In those 14 years with the Blackhawks, to say he had a great career would be an understatement. In terms of defensemen, Wilson ranks first in goals (225), assists (554), and points (779) in the history of the Chicago Blackhawks. Wilson is also one of four defensemen in Blackhawks history to win a Norris Trophy, along with Duncan Keith, Chris Chelios, and Pierre Pilote.
While there may have been a few defensemen come along and have just as big of an impact of the franchise (Duncan Keith would be an example), none of them have been able to match the career statistics that Doug Wilson had. And if he is caught in any of those categories, it definitely won't be anytime soon!
