Alex DeBrincat was a young superstar in Chicago coming off of a breakout season with 41 goals and 37 assists. DeBrincat was scoring in big moments and showing off his impressive chemistry with Patrick Kane on seemingly a nightly basis. Since being traded to Ottawa, DeBrincat hasn't put up the numbers many had expected.
DeBrincat has had a down year in his first season with his new club. He has 23 goals and 36 assists through 72 games, which is a far cry from his 41 goal performance last season in Chicago. While this may be a "down year" for DeBrincat, he still is putting plenty of shots on goal. His 235 shots on goal to this point is the second most he's tallied in his NHL career.
While DeBrincat may not have lived up to the hype this season in Ottawa, a turnaround is surely in the books for the young star. It takes time to develop chemistry with line mates and his shooting numbers are there. His plus/minus has taken a big hit as he has logged a +/- -25 this season.
It takes time to learn and play in a new defensive system. With some better puck luck, DeBrincat should be back in the 40 goal club next year and fans should see improvements in his overall game sooner than later. DeBrincat could be an x-factor for Ottawa next season and lead the charge towards a playoff birth.
