It's been a disappointing time for many in Leafs Nation after realising fan favourite goaltender Jack Campbell, who was known as "Soupy" in Toronto, signed with the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent.
However, Campbell hasn't forgotten his fans as he will meet with one of them this weekend. Meet Levi, a young fan of Campbell. At last, Levi got to meet his hero at a shopping mall in St. Catharines, Ontario.
At the new Edmonton Oilers goalie's meet-and-greet, Levi brought his hockey card to gift to Campbell at the new Edmonton Oilers goalie's meet-and-greet. He had a special gift for Campbell, a card of himself.
"He gave a card to Jack because we were getting a signed photo of Jack, so we wanted to do a trade," Levi's dad, Grant, said. "Levi introduced himself and let him know how much he appreciated Jack's time with the Maple Leafs."
Levi then gave Campbell his hockey card, which Campbell didn't get was a gift at first.
"Once we let him know it was his to keep, you could see Jack light right up," said Grant.
Campbell, being such an amazing person, would ask Levi to sign the hockey card for him. He told the young fan:
"He was going to keep the card to bring him good luck in games."
Grant said "he's always thought of Campbell as a stand-up player, but their interaction exceeded all his expectations." He, who plays goalie for his club team, now knows which player he aspires to be like.
"Levi and me both being Toronto Maple Leafs fans, I thought it was a cool opportunity to meet up with Jack, introduce Levi to a professional goaltender and someone he could look up to and watch a lot," Grant said.
