Yesterday, the Minnesota Wild made an unexpected and somewhat puzzling decision by choosing not to start Marc-André Fleury in the net during their game in Pittsburgh. This decision raised eyebrows, especially considering Fleury's significant connection with the Pittsburgh Penguins throughout his entire career.
To add to the intrigue, the Wild had a back-to-back set of games, playing yesterday and today, which meant both goalies would have to see action either way.
However, the team opted to have Fleury start in Boston today, with Filip Gustavsson taking the net in Pittsburgh last night. This decision holds particular significance as it might be Fleury's last NHL season, and this game would mark his final face-off against the Pittsburgh Penguins in his entire career.
Despite not playing, Fleury managed to make a special move that highlighted the unique bond between him and his former team, the Penguins.
The Penguins organization shared a light-hearted moment online, stating:
"Marc-André Fleury sneaked into the Penguins locker room earlier in the day and changed Kris Letang's helmet so he could wear the white helmet (on the outside) on the ice for warm-ups."
This playful prank sheds light on the friendship that persists between Fleury, even at 39, and his former teammates.
While it's uncommon to witness such interactions, this gesture speaks volumes about the enduring relationship between Fleury and the Penguins, showcasing that, regardless of age, Fleury still enjoys bringing laughter and camaraderie to the dressing rooms, even if it's not his own team!
