NHL Head Coach Sends a Strict Warning to His Entire Team
The Los Angeles Kings organization has blown up as of late, the ''blow up'' came after the highest scoring game in years took place on Tuesday November ninth when the Los Angeles Kings endured a 8-9 loss, yes, seventeen goals were scored!
The Los Angeles Kings had much higher expectations heading into this season with the additions of
Kevin Fiala and a few other new faces blooming in many good ways, but one players expectations quickly were thrown in the garbage after the teams' 8-9 loss on Tuesday.
That one player is goaltender
Cal Petersen, a 28-year old goaltender who signed a 3 year deal with an average of $5,000,000 per season until 2025-26, and it quickly slapped the Kings in the face.
Petersen was expected to take over the role of aging goaltender
Jonathan Quick, and to shape the franchises position between the crease, as per why they signed him to such a large contract, but he had little to none positive play shown, and it was quickly found out to be a mistake after the 8-9 game against the Kraken.
Directly after the game, the Los Angeles Kings said goodbye to goaltender Cal Petersen and waived him from the organization, putting many at surprise as this was supposed to be their new ''franchise goaltender'', as many said.
General manager Rob Blake felt as if the waiving of goaltender Cal Petersen was not to send a message to the teams roster, head coach Todd McLellan, who has had strong opinions at times thought otherwise.
Rob Blake stated the following:
''Cal can go back to the American League, play in games and get that get structure we believe in then come back and help us, That was the reason behind the decision. We didn't do it for a message. We did it to help Cal and get him in a situation to play in games and we believe he is a good goalie and we believe he is going to come back here and help.''
As mentioned, Todd McLellan has strong opinions when it comes to topics like these, and disagreed with his general manager on ''sending a message'' to players..
''Yes. Can it send a message to the team? It damn well should. Because we share in that transaction. All of us do.''
The teams best defensemen
Drew Doughty commented on the situation regarding goaltender Cal Petersen, and took blame, but also made it clear that this should be a wakeup call for the organization..
