In 2023, the Chicago Blackhawks traded three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers, was it the right move?

The Chicago Blackhawks made the tough decision to let former Captain Jonathan Toews walk at the end of the 2023 NHL season.
They'd draft Connor Bedard that summer as the face of the franchise and leader of what could be a new dynasty, should all the puzzle pieces fit in Chicago.
That depends on what Rockford and Chicago can do in synergy, as Davidson's draft picks slowly work their way into the organization.
But one player who we haven't talked about in some time is Patrick Kane who was unceremoniously traded to the New York Rangers in 2023 for two draft picks in the 2nd-round 55th overall ( Martin Misiak) and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
By all means, these two moves were the beginning of the rebuild we're now seeing materialize in Chicago.
But was sending Kane out to New York in exchange for Martin Misiak, really a fruitful trade when he could be here mentoring Connor Bedard instead?
Fans have let this simmer, and continue to think back to this mistake, and you can't help but think how much better Bedard would be with Kane on his flank.
Kane would later sign with the Detroit Red Wings the following November during the 2023 season, as part of the Yzerplan.
Now rotting in Detroit instead of lending his hand to the Blackhawks' future success.
GM Kyle Davidson's logic of letting a new leadership group form organically while ushering out the older group makes sense.
Kane could've learned to take on a new role, which letting Bedard take the wheel of the Hawks. Instead, he opted to trade him for a meager draft pick who hasn't made the NHL just yet and a pick who has yet to be made.
The former Stanley Cup champion still has a lot to offer the Blackhawks organization, and they've already brought back Teuvo Teravainen.
This season in 53 games with the Red Wings he's scored 40 points and is a pending UFA.
Make it happen, Kyle.
