Patrick Kane Gets Benched and Demoted After 'Awful' Performance
The New York Rangers suffered a tough loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, April 27th, and one player in particular felt the brunt of it. Forward Patrick Kane had a night to forget, earning a demotion to the bench for a large part of the third period. In fact, Kane only saw 14 minutes of ice time throughout the entire game, while some of the fourth-line players earned more.
The reasoning behind Kane's benching was clear. He earned a total of 4 penalty minutes and finished the game with a plus-minus rating of negative 1. It's a disappointing turn of events for the Rangers' star, who has been an important player for the team this season.
While Kane's demotion may seem harsh, it's clear that the Rangers coaching staff is looking for their players to step up in the playoffs. It also appears at the practice the next morning that Kane was stripped of his top line role:
With the series tied at 1-1, the Rangers will need a strong effort from Kane and the rest of the team if they hope to advance. Only time will tell if Kane can bounce back and help lead the Rangers to victory.
