Since the 2007-08 season, the United Center has been playing «Chelsea Dagger» every time the Blackhawks scored. «Chelsea Dagger» by The Fratellis has been a well known song in Chicago and Blackhawks fans. It's easy to get the «da-da-da» stuck in your head, especially if you were one of the thousands of people singing it at the United Center. In fact, Hawks fans spent lots of time singing «Chelsea Dagger» in the early 2010s during their dynasty era.
Over the past few years, Hawks fans have been singing «Chelsea Dagger» less and less. The Hawks have been steadily declining since their dynasty days. During their decline, the decline in team offense has also been noticeable. As the offense declines, the amount of times the goal horn is blasted and «Chelsea Dagger» is played, declines as well.
«Chelsea Dagger» started when the core of the dynasty was coming together. Toews was already drafted and Kane was shortly to come after. Those two along with Keith, Hossa, and Seabrook were reason to play that song as often they did. However, only Kane and Toews are left from those days. Now the Hawks are working to find their new core. The «Chelsea Dagger» days have past. With that being said, should the Hawks consider finding a new goal song for the upcoming core? It's hard to find a song to replace such an iconic and catchy song that's been a staple in Chicago sports, but it wouldn't be a terrible idea to welcome a new tradition for a new core. I personally can't think of a song that would be worthy of replacing «Chelsea Dagger.»
