A long-time scout for the Dallas Stars has passed away today, an announcement made by the team that the loss of Doug Overton was a great blow to the front office.

It is with great sadness we share the passing of longtime Stars scout, Doug Overton.

During an interview with Jim Nill, he explained that Overton played a very significant role in helping to make the 1999 Stars team one of the most successful teams in the history of the franchise, which won the Stanley Cup in 1999.

"Doug was a scout's scout. He knew the league and the players as well as anyone in the business. His role in helping build the '99 championship team can't be overstated, and he will be missed by the entire hockey community"

As a member of the Stars organization for 18 years, Doug Overton has been an integral part of the organization. In the 2007 draft, Overton played a crucial role in drafting players such as Jamie Benn, the current captain of the team, who was drafted in the fifth round. It was also under his guidance that Roope Hintz (49th pick in 2015), Trevor Daley (43rd pick in 2002), Jussi Jokinen (192nd pick in 2001), Jason Robertson (39th pick in 2017) and Jake Oettinger (26th pick in 2017) were selected.

The HawksInsider team is sorry to hear about the loss of Doug Overton, and we will keep his family and friends in our prayers during this difficult time.
