12 years ago today, the Chicago Blackhawks had a game three against the Vancouver Canucks in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. This was the first road game of the series for the Blackhawks. They actually lost game one at home 5-1. They were however able to bounce back in game 2 and get a 4-2 victory to make the series 1-1 before heading to Vancouver.
The Blackhawks were the first team on the board in this one, relatively quickly. Just over 5 minutes in, Kris Versteeg was able to find the back of the net for the first goal of the game to give the Blackhawks the early lead.
Later towards the end of the period, Dustin Byfuglien doubled the Blackhawks lead with a goal on the power play. 2-0 is how the score would stay until the end of the first period. The Canucks cut the lead in half in the second period with a goal from Jannik Hansen to make it 2-1. It would only stay that way for literal minutes as Dustin Byfuglien was able to find the back of the net for the second time in the game on the power play. Just before the end of the 2nd period, Alexandre Burrows made it 3-2 game with his second goal in the series.
That would be the last time the Canucks score that game as Marian Hossa scored first in the 3rd period to make it 4-2. Followed by Dustin Byfuglien with his third goal of the night to complete the hat trick and seal the deal for the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks would win this game by a final score of 5-2.
Check out the highlights below:
There were so many Chicago Blackhawk legends on that team, it's seems so nostalgic. Guys like Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith, Dustin Byfuglien, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Brent Seabrook, etc. One can only hope that Kyle Davidson and company are able to get the Blackhawks back to a spot where they are playing playoff hockey again.
