A trio of Blackhawks are headed to Finland with the U.S. Men's National Team for the 2022 IIHF World Championship. On Thursday morning, USA Hockey released its 24-man roster for the upcoming World Championship, which will be held in Tampere and Helsinki, Finland, from May 13-29.
Brothers Caleb and Seth Jones will stay together as staples of the United States' blue line. Seth leads all players on the roster with five prior international appearances and will likely be the front-runner for team captain. Caleb, who's set to become a restricted free agent with the Blackhawks this summer, will be representing Team USA for the first time as a professional.
New fan-favorite Sam Lafferty was one of 13 forwards named to the U.S. roster on Thursday, also making his first appearance. He recently inked a two-year contract extension with Chicago after impressing in the opportunities he was given after being acquired from Pittsburgh.
Former Hawks John Hayden and Adam Gaudette are also part of Team USA.
What makes the «roster» for the World Championships unique is players can join once their season comes to an end. So players who are eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs could opt in and join the team in the middle of the tournament.
The U.S. begins play in the world championship on May 13 against Latvia at 9:15 a.m. ET. All U.S. games in the tournament will air live on NHL Network.
