This has caused tremendous pressure on the shoulders of Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas who wasn't able to make any major improvements due to having very limited salary cap space due to the core of Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner and William Nylander.
After the seaon Dubas would tell Leafs Nation that there won't be any major changes mainly due to cap space aswell as Dubas believing this core can win still. The Leafs would lose some serious depth unfortunately seeing Jason Spezza, Ilya Mikheyev and the biggest departure Maple Leafs goaltender Jack Campbell who was nicknamed "Soup" by Leafs Nation Campbell left to Toronto to sign with the Edmonton Oilers via free agency.
Dubas would bring in Ilya Samsonov and trade to acquire Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators but both seem as a downgrade to Campbell who was one of the best Leafs goaltenders in years. With that said Dubas might of changed his mind on not making any major changes as the Leafs Gm looks to acquire one of the biggest names in the NHL...
And it would no doubt be one of the biggest trades in Leafs history in Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane.
Kane can still produce big numbers at 33 years old putting up 26 goals and 92 points on a terrible Blackhawks team last season. The question is now can Kyle Dubas and Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson come together to make this happen the Blackhawks will definitely have to retain around 50% of Kanes $10,500,000 million dollar salary however the Leafs have plenty of depth the Blackhawks could be interested in return to help the rebuild. Reports reveal Kyle Dubas has touched base on Patrick Kane to Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson.
