While Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane were busy being 8 year olds, the 1996 Chicago Blackhawks were busy trying to beat the future Stanley Cup Champions. And in this particular game, exactly 26 years ago, today, they did.
Finding themselves down 3-1 in the second period, the Blackhawks found a burst of energy with just over a minute left in the middle frame. Joe Murphy scored, bringing them within one. The third period gave Chicago one more to tie it up, and by OT, they were ready to bring it home. It only took 46 seconds for Sergei Krivokrasov to make his shot off a pass from Eric Daze, and earn his first ever NHL playoff point - which also just so happened to be his first ever NHL goal, in his 2nd ever NHL playoff game.
Needless to say, the elation in Pat Foley's voice came through loud and clear over the tv announcement, and it was heartwarming to see legendary Hawks such as Roenick, Savard, Chelios, Belfour, and more, celebrate their teammate and the win. Even though the Avs would eventually win the series, and go on to win the Cup, this was a great moment for the Chicago Club.
