Let's take a look at the organizational depth; including current goalies on both professional team rosters and goaltending prospects, developing in the minors.
Montreal Canadiens goaltending depth at the NHL level
Carey Price - Carey Price's health status (knee issues, awaiting results of injections in Price's surgically-repaired knee). There's no doubt who the crease belongs to; should Carey Price be 100 per cent ready, and medically cleared to play - he is the number-one goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens. The starter can't be confirmed until Price's knee is re-examined.
Jake Allen - Allen has been steady since coming over via trade from the St. Louis Blues. Through ( ) games with the Habs, Allen has recorded ( ) shutouts, ( ) wins, ( ) losses he also provided Stanley Cup winning knowledge to pass along to Carey (Price). Through ( ) playoff games with Canadiens, Allen posted a ( ) playoff record, and numbers?
Samuel Montembeault - Monty' as the Habs brass call him, endeared himself to the Canadiens' faithful; battling for several gutsy wins throughtout the 2021-22 NHL Regular season. His efforts paid off; as he inked a two-year one-way contract extension with the CH. So, it begs the question - who are the top-two goaltenders heading into the 2022-23 NHL Regular season.
Laval Rocket
Cayden Primeau - Primeau: Looks primed to be the starter for the 2022-23 AHL regular season. Primeau's play down the stretch in the playoffs was crucial; with the confidence from Laval's deep playoff run, Primeau should be primed for a big season with the Rocket. One more year in the AHL, and the following - Hughes and Gorton hopefully will have decisions to make.
Kevin Poulin, Joe Vrbetic, Jakub Dobes are knocking, or battling for a back-up position.
