The Winnipeg Jets have long been set; in term of having a guaranteed captain for the duration of the teams comeback stint.
That is until recently, when the Jets decided to strip long-time Jets captain Blake Wheeler of his captaincy, and naturally many questions emerge.
The big question is how does Wheeler feel about the whole thing, and fortunately it didn't take long to have a distinct answer.
"You know, there was some surprise, I think. Having the kind of year (the Jets had), the first conversation with the new coach was surprising. But I've had time to let it sink in, so he gave me a little headway. I've had time to process it,» responded the former Jets captain towards questions about how he is feeling after the decision.
Regardless of what Wheeler is feeling, at the end of the day he understands it's a business, and the final decision will goes through Rick Bowness.
On whether or not he expects a letter going into 2022-23, Wheeler said, "I don't need a letter on my jersey. There was a time in my career where that validation was important to me. I don't need that anymore."
Did the Jets blindside Wheeler, and has his continued professionalism more than proven why Wheeler is captain material? Comment your thoughts.
