The Chicago Blackhawks were trying to attack all their needs at the 2020 NHL Draft. General manager Stan Bowman and his scouting group selected a speedy and skilled winger in Lukas Reichel from Germany in the first round. In the second round the Hawks addressed their empty goalie pipeline and selected Drew Commesso from the United States Development program. At #79, the Blackhawks selected winger Landon Slaggert. From EliteProspects:Slagged played like a bulldozer in this game, he threw heavy hits, outmuscled opponents along the boards and seemingly always wanted to play the body to win the puck. He could outwork opponents in the slot as well. Showed some good speed and decent acceleration. Strong physically, dominates in board battles and in corners At #81 the Hawks selected Wyatt Kaiser. From EliteProspects:Kaiser's speed, edge work, and ability to maneuver in tight spaces offer him a great deal of escapability under pressure. He's one of the rare defenders in this year's draft that can make forecheckers look like they're skating in quicksand. Has a sophisticated understanding of bank passes; he uses angles expertly.
