Quickly, former Blackhawks coach and three-time Stanley Cup winner Joel Quenneville was thrown out as a replacement for Keefe. Matt Carlson of The Hockey News reports.
Quenneville is a logical choice, given Keefe's bad post-season record, winning only one round of playoff hockey in 5 seasons.
Quenneville would be a perfect coach to follow Keefe, as they still consider themselves contenders.
He is the 2nd most winningest coach in NHL History posting 969 victories in 25 seasons coaching in the league.
This record was verified by The Hockey News' journalistMatt Carlson.
With Keefe being ousted after their 1st round loss in the playoffs, Quenneville would bring a playoff pedigree, far above coaches like Craig Berube.
Quenneville's record from 2008-2018 speaks to how successful of a coach he really is, going 452-249-96 in 10 seasons. The Blackhawks also had a playoff Berube could never match, at 76-52 in 129 playoff games, with a .594 winning percentage.
Not only that, but Quenneville was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2nd round 21st overall in 1978. So It would be a welcome homecoming undoubtedly, he would play a season in Toronto from 1978-1979 before being traded to the Colorado Rockies.
Being a three-time Stanley Cup-winning coach, with a winning record would be the next Maple Leafs hire would be a coup for Brad Treliving.
