"The Chicago Blackhawks surprised many this season as they made a real push for the playoffs. Unfortunately the team wasn't able to hold on the whole way through and just missed out. Quite the season and the whole thing went down with their captain, Jonathan Toews, sidelined. Toews was hit with a very unfortunate and scary health issue which he said left him massively fatigued and lethargic and he ended up missing the whole season. No details were revealed during the season regarding Toews' absence and there was no shortage of rumors and conspiracy theories. Will he play during the 2021-22 season?According to Mark Lazerus of The Athletic, it seems more than likely. The Blackhawks' insider gave a bit of an update regarding the captain recently:"Here's what I can report: Toews is indeed improving, as TSN's Darren Dreger first reported in late April. And the Blackhawks are indeed optimistic he'll be able to return to the team in the fall. That said, nothing is certain. Being optimistic is not the same thing as being sure. I have requested to speak with Toews through the Blackhawks' media-relations department many, many times throughout the season. I've enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Toews over the past nine seasons, and I'm respecting his request for privacy rather than pepper him with direct requests for comment (as, let's face it, I did in October). So Toews is well aware that I (and surely others) would love to speak with him and tell his story. But it's just that — his story. This is a unique situation, and Toews is a singular figure in this city. If anyone has earned the benefit of the doubt, and the right to wait until he decides it's time to speak, it's Toews. So until he's ready to talk, we're all going to have to sit, be patient and be hopeful."Here's hoping that Toews is feeling like his old self! "
