The Chicago Blackhawks are sending a strong message to a veteran defenseman by opting to healthy scratch him in their faceoff against the Tampa Bay Lightning today

Ahead of the Blackhawks game against the Lightning on Friday, head coach Anders Sorensen sent out a bold message to a specific player, and followed up by disciplining him.

«We expect more out of him, and I think he does of himself, too. We have a lot of games here up to the break, so for him, it's a bit of a reset and just knowing he can be better, as well.»
Said Blackhawks head coach Anders Sorensen pre-game interview before facing off against the Lightning

The defenseman who is being disciplined in 950-game veteran TJ Brodie, who was signed by Kyle Davidson this off-season to bolster the rosters veteran presence.

Anders Sorensen separates himself from Luke Richardson with bold lineup decision

Scratching Brodie, due to 'poor performances' not being excused, shows he's not scared to put his foot down; unlike former head coach Luke Richardson. The veteran has played in 951 NHL games, and is being sat for the second time this season.

Sorensen shows promise in the youth and is giving them opportunity; unlike Luke Richardson, once again. Ethan Del Mastro, a 22-year old nitty-gritty defenseman will. make his season debut against the strong offensive Tampa Bay Lightning, being put to a true test on Friday, in replace of Brodie.

The Blackhawks are entering their game against the contending Tampa Bay Lightning on a three game point streak, while the Lightning are in a surprising rut, suffering two straight losses.

Ethan Del Mastro's entry into the lineup won't be an easy task, as he's facing off against Nikita Kucherov, who is on a 10-game point streak.
