Jonathan Toews' NHL Return Comes to Unfortunate Halt Following Concerning Update
Former captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, Jonathan Toews, has completed a road to recovery from his diagnoses of Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, and now, he takes the ice in preparation for an NHL comeback.
Toews' historic career with the Blackhawks came to an unexpected-ending in the 2020-21 season due to his diagnosis of CIRS and 'long COVID'. Toews ended up making a return in April of 2023, and fans have not seen him take the ice since.
In a recent interview, Toews addressed his health healing journey, revealing a retreat to India solved his health problems as he underwent a detox called Panchakarma.
During the interview, Toews stated "I'm happy to say things are trending (in a better direction".
Hometown team interested in making Toews' dreams come true with signing
As Toews hits the ice for his unexpected return to hockey after many years away, Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff expressed severe interest in bringing Toews to his hometown team.
"Knowing what standard he holds himself to as an athlete and what impact he wants to have in games when he plays, I think it will be an interesting journey to watch."
Said the Jets' general manager, alongside other comments:
Fans expected a Toews comeback in the 2024-25 NHL season, however, TSN's Pierre LeBrunhas provided an update, and his progress has taken a turn.
This is striking many as concerning, as a once reported return to the NHL in this season (2024-25) has been delayed a year, meaning Toews' health may not be ready yet, or possibly ever.
Toews is not expected to return this season, and he states that fans, alongside NHL organizations will have to put his signing to a halt as his camp (agent) is hoping for a 2025-26 season return.
We are beyond thrilled to receive updates on the comeback of Jonathan Toews, and regardless if it's in the 2025-26 season or in 2028-29, we will be blessed to see the once-captain back on the ice.
