Chicago Blackhawks legend Chris Chelios announces a multi-millionaire is joining the team radio show
The Chicago Blackhawks have a legendary defenseman in Chris Chelios, who has stuck around the team since his retirement.
The team recently retired his jersey in an exciting bout which saw Connor Bedard take on Patrick Kane.
Chelios has recently launched a major tequila brand with "El Bandid Yankee Tequila" and was recently in the booth with WGN's John Wideman.
This ushered in a new tradition for the booth crew every goal by the Blackhawks this season.
Wideman, Chelios, and WGN will "Break out the Bandido"
NHL Hall of Famer, Blackhawks legend and El Bandido Yankee Tequila co-founder, Chris Chelios joins John Wiedeman in the broadcast booth for a recent game to start this Blackhawks season. Hear as Chris gets to «Break Out the Bandido» after a Blackhawks goal and celebrate with the listeners and fans. The WGN Radio and Blackhawks broadcast team gets to «Break Out the Bandido» after every goal this season and hopefully all the way to the playoffs
The Blackhawks averaging 2.17 goals per game in the NHL currently, so we should be thankful that Wideman and Chelios aren't on the floor drunk by the end of every game.
El Bandido Yankee Tequila was recently covered in Forbes as the brand itself has been around since 2021 and was launched by Chelios, and former NFL player Jim Bob Morris.
Launched in the summer of 2021 by former NFL player Jim Bob Morris and NHL Hall of Famer Chris Chelios, the foray into the sports world makes sense. Based in Chicago, the company was able to tap into the midwestern market from the get-go due to Chelios's history in the region-he spent large parts of his career on the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings. But the two men also had bigger plans for their brand, and to attract drinkers, they would need to look outside hockey and play to win.
This partnership with the Blackhawks is just another example of Chelios' being successful instead of not just in the sports realm, but in spirits too.
El Bandido Yankee's reach into the sporting world might be unprecedented for any company, not just an alcohol brand, to have achieved so quickly. They have partnered with college football's Hula Bowl, with the NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB teams, and the UFC. Just outside the stadium at Super Bowl XVII, they were pouring drinks and up the road at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a PGA Tour event.
