The Vancouver Canucks need to soothe the locker room, but it appears they won't be making a deal with the Blackhawks, who pulled out of an Elias Pettersson trade.

The Chicago Blackhawks could use a top-six forward to complement Connor Bedard's skillful play.
The Blackhawks top center scored 61 points last season and earned a Calder Trophy for being the NHL's rookie MVP.
Now on the cusp of the trade deadline, GM Kyle Davidson is examining the roster and seeing where they can acquire top-end talent next. Suffice to say, the moves during the offseason haven't proven to be as effective as we'd thought, as they're currently 15-29-5.
A player like Elias Pettersson could've been a huge coup for GM Kyle Davidson if he'd been able to pull off the trade.
Now, it appears the Blackhawks are removing themselves from the discussion regarding Elias Pettersson, and letting GM Kevyn Adams and the Sabres take the lead.
"I think those talks continue, and I believe that one of the teams that has really shown a lot of interest is Buffalo," Friedman added on Saturday. "There are others, but the Sabres are definitely in there."

The Canucks are in the hunt for top-four defensemen and the Blackhawks have enough depth to fill the void in Vancouver. Seth Jones anyone?
But like another GM in the league (Chris Drury) it appears that Kyle Davidson and GM Patrik Allvin were likely never going to be trade partners.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast felt that the Hawks should've been one of the teams in on Petterson. Considering the amount of assets and prospects available to the team, you'd think he'd be able to lock it down.
Instead, the Blackhawks have decided to status quo, and tread the path they're on and icing the lineup with Tyler Bertuzzi, and Frank Nazar.
The Blackhawks at the moment currently have $4.6 million in salary cap space and would have to move extra pieces to find the space to acquire Petterson.
This might be an issue, but since the veterans are underperforming at the moment they could be a part of a package deal that could help Davidson find extra money.
You could easily find that cash, moving players like Tyler Bertuzzi, or Jason Dickinson who are trade candidates for the Hawks.
Now instead he's going to let an Atlantic Division team have first dibs on Pettersson.
