The Chicago Blackhawks may be ready to add a waiver addition from their arch rivals the Detroit Red Wings as Tim Gettinger was placed on waivers

Standing at 6 foot 6 and 215 lbs, Gettinger could attract several NHL teams as his size and grit could be useful especially for contending teams.

This type of player could also benefit teams like the Blackhawks who are looking to add size and physicality as they continue to build out their roster to help budding superstar Connor Bedard.

Gettinger Was drafted in the NHL in 2016, fifth round, 141st overall by the New York Rangers.

The 26-year-old left winger had played for the Rangers organization for four seasons from 2018 through 2022 and spent several years with their farm club the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Having never cracked the Red Wings lineup, it appears that general manager Steve Yzerman has decided to cut ties and send him onto the waiver wire. He is currently signed to a one year contract worth $775,000.

This kind of contract certainly would give many teams a chance to look at him and it remains to be seen on whether the Blackhawks may take a chance but at that low cost and only a one year deal it might be worth the risk.

In the meantime, the Blackhawks will not play till Wednesday November 27th but they will be at home to face off against the Dallas Stars.

Bedard has not scored a goal since the last time they played the stars back in late October and hopefully he will be able to break that slump.

Game time will be 8:30 PM eastern.
