32 Thoughts podcaster and Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedmanhas gone on record to name drop both Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba as potential trade pieces from the Rangers as general manager Chris Drury appears to be prepared to shake up his roster.
The Rangers have been slowly lowering in the standings as the team has been marred with poor performances and games where they have been badly outshot and played which has not settled well with the Rangers fan base and their management team.
Adding a player like Kreider to the Blackhawks would energize the entire team and give themselves another franchise player who would be able to play alongside Connor Bedard.
The 30 year old has had 136 goals and 79 assists for the last four years which gives him 215 points through 261 games played.
The Blackhawks have many options available to the Rangers who would be looking for prospects and or a potential young player who would be available to play immediately as the team continues to strive to be younger.
The Blackhawks also have significant capital in cap space and in draft picks which would make the money easy to absorb and bring a quality player like Crider into the roster. He also holds great leadership which has been on display especially last year when the Rangers were practically at the Stanley Cup finals doorstep.
Kreider would bring cost certainty for the Rangers as he has two years left on his deal and only has a 15 team no trade clause.
It would be a situation that needs to be widely watched as the Rangers we're not expected to be in this position with names of this caliber being thrown around this early.
But if this team continues to flounder and drop in the standings, it's likely Drury would make a change or two and it would be in Kyle Davidson's best interest to give him a call and find out what the cost would be to acquire this talent.
