The Chicago Blackhawks' defensive woes have been well-documented recently, and they could help solve them by acquiring this veteran defenseman from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With a glut of defensemen available since the acquisition of Dante Fabbro and David Jiricek sitting on the sidelines, Ivan Provorov's name has been in trade talks recently.

Provorov was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1st round of the 2015 draft and was moved to Columbus for a first-round pick and a conditional 2nd round pick in the 2024 draft.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Blackhawks know what they'll have to pay to acquire solid blueline help, which has been missing recently.

«And there's an understandable sensitivity to the Jackets wanting to give their group as long a leash as possible to remain competitive. But the business of the game will take over at some point here. They're not going to make the playoffs. They have to manage their assets ahead of March 7. They will most likely deal Provorov.»

«The asking price will be a first-round pick, which is obviously pretty richBut [Provorov] will be a name we'll be talking about a lot.»

It appears that the Blue Jackets are fielding offers currently and discussing the top-four defenseman, they're still mulling the decision.

«Ivan Provorov figures to be the No. 1 rental defenceman traded before March 7,» LeBrun explained on Insider Trading.

While the Blackhawks have the assets to make a move now, they should consider moving a pick, and additional salary to make the deal.

If it involves moving someone like T.J. Brodie, the Hawks could be better for it.

Provorov is a two-way defenseman, who has offensive upside and would be a great part of Davidson's rebuild in the Windy City.

Scouting reports on Provorov have highlighted his skating ability and control. TSN Hockey declared him an "[e]xcellent, all-around defenseman with good upside", and praised his "excellent skating ability and a penchant for displaying tremendous mobility on the ice".

Last season in 82 games with the Blue Jackets he scored 32 points(5 G, 27 A) and was a fixture on the team's top-four.

He could find his way onto the Blackhawks lineup with Seth Jones's absence, and make an immediate impact as T.J. Brodie has failed to live up to expectations lately.

His current cap hit with the Jackets is $6.7 Million, but if I'm Kyle Davidson, I'd ask the Blue Jackets to retain a percentage of his salary before sending any 1st or 2nd round picks to acquire him.
