Did former Chicago Blackhawk Patrick Kane, a US-born star deserve a spot on the U.S. team for the 4 Nations Faceoff that just ended? He has finally spoken out on the matter.
In a recent interview, Kane shared his honest opinion when asked about the touchy subject [him being snubbed from Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament].
Canada proved they're still the top hockey country after
Connor McDavid scored the game winning goal in overtime, giving them a 3-2 win in the 4 Nations Faceoff championship game Thursday night.
Canadian fans can relax knowing their team's talent is the best for now, even though the game was a close one, but what about American hockey fans?
What about forward Patrick Kane?
Should he have been on the American team?
Kane admitted that his performance at the start of the season wasn't strong enough to earn him a spot on the roster.
«I didn't play well enough this year to make the team,» he said. «I'm not upset with anyone but myself.»
After the Red Wings fired coach Derek Lalonde and brought in Todd McLellan, Kane's game improved a lot.
Kane led the entire NHL with 13 points in the first eight games under the new coach.
Sadly enough, he didn't make the final U.S. roster, which came up one win short of the championship.
Kane said he felt left out:
«You want to be part of it. It's great hockey and a big chance to compete. But it is what it is.» He also thought about the past, saying, «We missed nine years of these events. Some of those years were the best hockey I ever played, so you wonder about what could have been.»
Kane is in third place for most points by an American-born NHL player of all-time, behind the names of legends like Brett Hull and Mike Modano.
