The Chicago Blackhawks have secured their third straight win, on home ice against the Seattle Kraken.
While the Blackhawks experienced a lapse in defense on the Kraken's Ryker Evans goal. Connor Bedard was held scoreless, but the team would go on to win 3-1 against the Kraken.
Here are five thoughts surrounding the game, which stood out to me.
1. The Blackhawks' defeat of the Kraken has course-corrected the series against the newest expansion franchise in the NHL.
With last night's loss, the team gave the Kraken their fourth loss against the original-six franchise. A franchise that if they had a clear-cut plan while Stan Bowman was GM, wouldn't even be a thing.
At this point in the Blackhawks' tenure in the NHL, they should have the same standards as their brethren, like the Bruins who up until recently were a standard of excellence in the NHL.
2. The Blackhawks hired Interim Coach Sorensen at the end of November, and he has turned the team around.
Since his hire, he's put the Blackhawks onto the correct path, with a 4-3-0 record in the last seven, which is an improvement this season.
His coaching had given the Blackhawks a refreshment in play style and last night the team held on both defensively until nearly the end of the game. The defense and forwards both got in on neutralizing the Kraken's offense.
3. The superstar forward only had two shots on goal last night and was held scoreless. Typically Bedard would work his magic to make a slick passing play or cut through the defense with ease which we love to see.
But sometimes, he needs to play in the dirty areas and get some ugly goals.
It would be refreshing for him to get back to basics, and find a way to score ugly in games he can't be a player who makes an impact.
He took 20 shifts last night, and 19:59 TOI, and won 4 faceoffs.
4. Ilya Mikheyev was on hatty-watch last night and he scored twice against the Kraken and gave the team an early lead against the expansion squad.
Mikeheyev is taking advantage of his opportunity to make an impact on the ice.
Last night in the 1st period, he crashed the net early and his shot on goal was gloved by Joey Daccord. But that wouldn't stop him. as he scored his first goal via Teuvo Teravainen, by a deflection.
He'd score the 2nd goal of the night on a wrist shot, and it seemed the night was over. While Evans would try and mount a comeback Mikheyev's efforts solidified the dominance over the 32nd team in the NHL last night.
5. Allan showed up on the ice last night and scored his first NHL goal. He not only plays a physical game on the ice but has an offensive upside as well.
He put the knife in the hopes of the Kraken, scoring his 1st NHL goal at 15:11 in the 3rd period.
While he's not the towering menace that Louis Crevier is, Allan plays well on both sides of the ice.
The team spent their first-round draft pick on the rookie well, he's already delivering on the ice in important situations.
