On Saturday night, the Ottawa Senators faced off against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.
In warmups, a swift surprise took place when backup goaltender for the Senators, Anton Forsberg, was not present, perhaps a injury or illness, it has been undisclosed.
Following Forsberg's mystery disappearance, the Senators called upon a fan that was present in the crowd by the name of Zachary Dietz, to serve as the Ottawa Senators' EBUG (emergency backup goaltender).
Dietz was present at the game with his girlfriend, wearing a Josh Norris jersey when he got the nod in goal.
Dietz serves as the backup goaltender to the University of Ottawa GG's team, so the experience was there- but not NHL experience.
On such a time crunch, the EBUG goaltender was spotted running to the arena with his hockey equipment and goalie pads on, likely due to Ottawa's traffic around game time.
The Senators pulled away with a 3-2 win, while Dietz sat alone in a dressing room waiting for the call to come into action.
A video below captured Dietz's arrival to the Canadian Tire Centre, following his 5k marathon to get to the arena with his heavy bag of equipment.
When watching a hockey game, especially as a high-level goaltender- expect the unexpected!
