Lindstrom was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings for defenseman Jeff Petry in a trade, which had a 2025 conditional fourth-round pick attached to him.
The defenseman was signed on October 9th, 2024.
He was immediately placed on waivers to join the AHL's Laval Rocket, and seen as a stopgap, while David Reinbacher is developing. He's also currently injured.
If GM Kyle David was paying attention, he could snatch up another depth defense to add to the AHL and develop in Rockford, as they do so lovely, like Alex Vlasic.
Lindstrom's contract is a cheap league minimum at $775K and could add more depth in Rockford. Defensemen aren't exactly cheap, and while he's not a full-on NHL defenseman, he could develop into one, as it's been noted some defensemen take 5 years to develop.
Not only that, there's another soon-to-be AHLer, that Kyle Davidson could claim for the Blackhawks rebuild which could push it forward, literally.
That is Edmonton Oilers/Bakersfield Condors forward, Raphael Lavoie who has seen his name twice this week on waivers, and claimed once by the Vegas Golden Knights, and once again by the Edmonton Oilers.
Now the Oilers are once again opening up the possibility of a claim.
The Blackhawks should do it without hesitation.
Lavoie is always signed to a one-year, $775K minimum deal and played 66 games in the AHL with the Condors scoring 50 points( 22 G, 28 A) and would be a capable NHL forward very soon.
Kaapo Kahkonen was drafted 109th overall in 2019, and was hyped in his arrival to the Minnesota Wild organization, but couldn't make it on the NHL roster after spending years in Iowa. He'd later play for a short time in San Jose before being traded to New Jersey where he'd only play 6 games last season.
Kahkonen could be a worthwhile reclamation project for cheap.
