Both TSN and Sportnet specifically banned from this event as they have painted Marner in a very dim view over the past several years due to his playoff failures in terms of his performance. Marner is playing out his final year of his contract and has chosen not to seek out an extension at this time and would rather play out the year and see where this takes him.
What raised many eyebrows is the fact that Maple Leaf sports and entertainment is owned by Dell media and Rogers media who both own on their own TSN and Sportsnet. It certainly begs the question of how could you ban your own employer's media companies.
Some players have bet on themselves which has led them to giant contract extensions including his teammate William Nylander who signed an extension of eight years at $11 million per season.
With this ban, it also brings many questions on how Marner handles the media in Toronto as their relationship has not been great as scrutiny has continued to rise over the past several years.
The expectations for Marner's performance is that the highest level as he's making almost $11 million per year even though in the playoffs they do not pay the players.
It's widely expected that this season will be a tense and interesting season for Marner and the Maple Leafs along with Leafs nation as the entire fan base waits and watches on what will happen next.
