Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period stated that former NHL star Ed Olczyk appears to be a leading candidate for this role. The Flyers had decided after dismissing former president and general manager Chuck Fletcher to separate the jobs and focus on the rebuilding phase of this team.
Olczyk brings a wealth of knowledge about the game of hockey since he had a 16-year career as a player, was the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins for two seasons, and remained in the game as a colour commentator for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Seattle Kraken.
Having an executive with that much experience throughout the NHL who has built contacts with agents, coaches, other general managers and players in this current era would make him an excellent choice to run the Flyers.
Another advantage would be that he has not been a Flyer before as a player or a coach will give the team more insight from a different lens.
I believe that the team should look to other people throughout the NHL rather than former alumni and people within the Flyers organization, as the team needs a new face and voice to usher in a new era of talent and competitiveness.
