The Blackhawks were handed some tough news this morning as defensive prospect Ian Mitchell will be out for roughly six weeks with a left wrist injury.
Ian Mitchell is viewed as one of the Blackhawks best defensive prospects. He was clearly rushed to the NHL too soon after signing an entry level contract and his confidence plummeted after his play on the ice was less than ideal.
Mitchell spent this last season in Rockford where he worked on tightening up his defensive game. He tallied 35 points in 57 games and played at the level that deemed him worthy of being drafted by Chicago. Mitchell was poised to break into the NHL at some point this season and looked to prove to everyone that he belongs and is deserving to play at the highest-level hockey has to offer. It is a tough break for the 23-year-old, but hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later and finally get the chance to prove himself.
