It has been a few months since the hockey world received the surprising news that the Chicago Blackhawks were no longer interested in retaining Jonathan Toews, their longtime captain and three-time Stanley Cup champion.

This decision left me somewhat taken aback, as it seemed logical to keep him on board to assist in bridging the gap between the incoming new group, led by Connor Bedard, and potentially make this season a farewell tribute to Toews, especially if he decides to call his career.

However, contrary to these expectations, the Blackhawks did not pursue this route. As the summer sun shines in the middle of August, sporadic tweets featuring Jonathan Toews have begun to appear across the web, capturing moments where fans have had the chance to snap pictures with him.

Recently, Brooke, a hockey writer and Blackhawks contributor tweeted a photo of Jonathan Toews casually socializing with her and her friend Tyler Johnson, a member of the team's top six players who is currently on the roster.

Throughout this summer, the long-serving Blackhawks captain seems to be embracing a sense of tranquillity, thoroughly enjoying his time. He has yet to reach a verdict on whether he wishes to continue his NHL journey with another organization or opt for retirement as a lifelong Blackhawk.

With the impending approach of the season and the looming rise of training camp on the horizon, one can anticipate an escalation in news coverage and swirling rumours about his potential next move.

Should Toews decide to remain in the NHL, it is foreseeable that numerous teams will express their interest in acquiring his valuable skills, as he still possesses much to contribute. After dedicating his summer to introspection, as is his custom, there exists the distinct possibility that he might forego the effort altogether and make the decision to retire from the game.
