IndyCar driver Zach Claman DeMelo has accused Detroit Red Wings forward Daniel Sprong of assaulting him during the week of the Detroit Grand Prix. DeMelo claims the assault happened in a nightclub and alleges two separate incidents involving him and Sprong.

Taking to social media, DeMelo posted on his Instagram stories along with images of his chipped teeth, bloodied mouth, and arm scrapes, claiming they resulted from the altercation. He also mentioned suffering a concussion.

"During Grand Prix weekend I was assaulted at a night club by @detroitredwings @nhl player @sprong11. He grabbed my neck and pinned me on a wall, we were separated during that scuffle. After when I had believed the situation was over Daniel scame back and sucker punched me in the face while I was defenceless.. The photos in the slide before is the after math of the incident. The dental work needed was brutal and l'm still not finished. I also sustained a concussion that l've been dealing with over the past few weeks."

DeMelo stated,

"No one has the right to act this way, especially an athlete of Daniel's caliber."
He hinted at potential legal action without specifying charges.

Neither Sprong nor the Red Wings have responded publicly. Sprong recently signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Red Wings after scoring 21 goals for the Seattle Kraken last season.
