Blackhawks goalie shows his saucy passing skills.
Over the years, some NHL organizations have drafted goaltenders that had extra skills aside from their puck-stopping ability. Goalies like New Jersey Devils Marty Brodeur could be a third defenseman along with undrafted former Blackhawks goaltender Eddie Belfour.
What made those players unique, however, is they had an unprecedented ability to pass the puck up the ice to clear it from their zone. Both could get the puck to a streaking forward or even score a goal which was a talent of Brodeur himself.
Tonight when the Blackhawks played the Minnesota Wild, Blackhawks goaltender Alex Stalock showed that he also has an impressive ability to pass the puck up the ice.
Since coming over from the San Jose Sharks, Stalock has shown that he can play the role of a goaltender on a rebuilding team. He has played 25 games and has a record of 9-14-1. He holds a 2.92 GAA and has an SV percentage of .912 with two shutouts.
Stalock will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. The 35-year-old goaltender held a cap hit of $750,000. The Blackhawks will likely retain his services for at least another year or two as the team continues to dive deeper into their rebuilding phase.
