Before last season, the Blackhawks shocked the hockey world when they made two key decisions that resulted in the trades of two young up-and-coming star players, from whom they recouped assets and draft picks.

Alex DeBrincat, who was drafted 39th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks, was traded to the Ottawa Senators on July 7th, 2022. In return, the Blackhawks received the 7th and 39th overall picks in that year's draft, along with a third-round pick for the 2023 draft.

One of the picks, the 7th overall choice, was defenseman Kevin Korchinski. The 19-year-old, who stands at 6 feet and weighs 185 pounds, is from Saskatoon, SK.

In a recent interview, he spoke about the idea of him becoming an NHL regular, expressing his belief that he is ready for the big league and will provide the Blackhawks with a much-needed boost on defence.

Korchinski has had an excellent season with the Seattle Thunderbirds, playing 54 games, scoring eleven goals, and providing 62 assists for a total of 73 points. He finished with a plus/minus rating of +50 and accumulated 54 penalty minutes.

In the 2022-2023 season, the Thunderbirds won the Western Hockey League championships, securing a berth at the Memorial Cup for the second time in their history.

Unfortunately, the Thunderbirds did not win the Memorial Cup; the Quebec Remparts claimed the title.

Considering the impressive numbers Korchinski has produced and the maturity he is showing, I believe he will compete for a spot on the roster next season and has a good chance of being successful.
