The NHLPA is making a massive leadership change in the form of a new Executive Director. According to Frank Seravalli, former Boston Mayor and current U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh will be the new Executive Director of the NHLPA.

Walsh is born and raised in Boston and was the city's 54th mayor. Walsh is expected to resign from his Secretary of Labor position shortly after President Biden's State of The Union address. This move requires a vote from the board, but is expected to be voted in unanimously.

Walsh will be replacing Donald Fehr, who has held the position since 2010. Walsh will be allowed to live in Boston without having to move to Toronto and is expected to make roughly $3 million a year.

Walsh interestingly is the first Executive Director to not come from a legal background prior to accepting the role. Walsh was the president of the Laborers' Union in Boston at the age of 21 years old and had a stint in the Massachusetts state legislature. Is this a good hire for the NHLPA?
