Before Chicago thumped out 8 goals vs the Detroit Red Wings, the Chicago Blackhawks placed forward Brett Connolly on waivers. This is not a first for him, unfortunately. Connolly has struggled to keep a consistent role on an NHL roster throughout his career. Connolly has played in a total of four games this season, and if you go back to last season when he came over to Chicago, Connolly has only played in fourteen games. In those fourteen games for Chicago, Connolly has scored one goal and one assist.
Connolly has one more year left on his contract following this season. A contract that carries a cap hit of 3.5 million. If and when Connolly clears waivers, it will allow Chicago to bury 1.25 million of his cap hit from their books. This should allow the Hawks more caps space to play with if he decides to make a move before the deadline. He will more than likely clear waivers and head down to the minors. This season, Connolly has played in sixteen AHL games and has been pretty productive for Rockford. He has five goals and six assist this season in the minors.
