Many times NHL GM's are taking a high-risk, high-reward approach to drafting when they opt for a big forward.
The Oilers did just that with their first-round pick in 2016, and recently both parties settled on a one-year $3 million deal through salary arbitration. And the rumour talk followed close behind.
Jesse Puljujarvi has been a polarizing player for the Oilers, since he was drafted. The size, potential and skill package round-out an impressive player, if it all comes together - which for Puljujarvi it hasn't.
«Continuing to pursue all trade options for Puljujarvi - the most obvious move to clear out some cap space. If it doesn't happen they can still start with what they've got but it'll be razor thin margin budget-wise and could cause issues later in season,» enthused TSN's Oilers beat reporter Ryan Rishaug.
Puljujarvi has openly shown his interest in staying in Alberta, and fans via social media feel he is being disrespected by the organization, despite his efforts.
Should the Oilers pursue moving the big Finnish winger, certainly suitors will be calling the organization with trade packages.
Are the Oilers doing Puljujarvi a disservice? Comment your thoughts below.
