The Edmonton Oilers went further then many expected despite having two of the best players in the world in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl they and the rest of the Oilers offence can only do so much.
The biggest issue was in goal with the tandem of Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen being one of the worse tandems heading into the playoffs. Despite that the Oilers would manage to beat the Los Angeles kings Johnathan Quick and Calgary Flames Jacob Markstrom by having to score alot of goals.
Unfortunately their luck ran out facing the high octain Colorado Avalanche who lit Mike Smith up like a Christmas tree for four games sweeping the Oilers. Smith would get alot of criticism on social media for his goaltending including former NHL'er Andrew Shaw who scored his share of goals on Mike Smith back in his day.
Shaw was a pest to goaltenders when he played but Shaw decided to re-ignite an old feud with Oilers goaltender Mike Smith with some savage tweets on the play of Smith. Shaw wasn't the only one to take a jab at Smith Oilers General manager Ken Holland who was heavily criticized for not getting a goaltender at the trade deadline realized that was his mistake saying,
"We need to get a number one goaltender"
-Ken Holland
