The Blackhawks take the ice in Colorado tonight for a matchup against the defending Stanley Cup champions at 8:30pm CT.
The Blackhawks went 0-3-1 against the Avalanche last year, getting outscored 16-9 in those games.
With the losses of DeBrincat, Dach, Fleury, and others, the Blackhawks are set to be one of the worst teams in the NHL; and of course, they begin the season against the Stanley Cup favorites.
The Avalanche come into the game after losing some solid role players from last year's squad, but having replaced them with the likes of D Brad Hunt, G Alexander Georgiev, F Evan Rodrigues, and F Lukas Sedlak.
Their core-four of Makar, MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Landeskog still remain. They also have Devon Toews and Artturi Lehkonen who add a ton more skill to those top 4 players.
Landeskog begins the year on the IR with a lower body injury. He had 11 goals and 11 assists in 20 games for Colorado in the playoffs.
The Blackhawks come into the season with a ton of new faces. I am not even going to list them out, just take a look at the roster, but be prepared to not recognize a few names.
Luke Richardson's squad is just looking to get their feet warm with NHL action, but one thing to look out for is the teams penalty kill. They have given up just 1 power play goal in their last 20 attempts, which is good for a 95% kill percentage.
It will also be interesting to see how Kaner does in his first action without line-buddy, Alex DeBrincat. Will he be the same Kaner, or take a hit due to lack of talent around him?
Tonight's game can be watched on TNT with puckdrop set for 8:30pm CT,
