Goaltender Officially Leaves The NHL And Signs Contract in Sweden
It seems as if it's a trend nowadays to leave the NHL, but many wonder.. why? Is Gary Bettman ruining the NHL, with all the vaccination policies, certain players are leaving without a hesitation. Players are leaving a chance at a multi-million dollar contract for nearly 90% less in their respective countries and European leagues which many are headed to.
Now, we have the seventh player this week announcing his departure and he is a goaltender.
Alex D'Orio (@alexdor01) has signed with IF Bjorkloven of the second-tier Swedish league.
D'Orio, 23, went 7-10-4 with an 884 SV% with the WBS Penguins (AHL), and 5-4-0 with an .865 SV% with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) last season.
D'Orio was fourth on Pittsburgh's goaltending depth chart prior to being released to the UFA market this summer. The Penguins did not give the goaltender a qualifying offer, leading D'Orio to take his talents to Sweden where he will have the potential to be a teams star player.
