While arbitration filings are being settled and depth signings are continuing, some notable names remain without a team.
Former Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is among those who have yet to be signed. Although there is speculation that he may be considering retirement, his 31 points in 53 games last season make him a valuable depth option for teams like the Washington Capitals or Edmonton Oilers.
Patrick Kane recently underwent hip-resurfacing surgery and is currently in rehabilitation. Despite playing injured, he put up an impressive 53 points in 73 games with the New York Rangers last season and is likely looking to join a contender again.
Vladimir Tarasenko had a successful run with the Rangers last season after requesting a trade from St. Louis years ago. With a tight salary cap, he may be looking at a one-year prove-it contract after putting up 51 points in 69 games.
The Boston Bruins will miss the leadership of free-agent Patrice Bergeron, a consistent Selke Trophy winner and team captain. While there has been no official word on his return or retirement, his 58 points in 78 games last season make him a valuable asset to any team.
Tomas Tatar is also available after completing a $4.5 million, two-year contract with the New Jersey Devils. He posted 48 points in 82 games and could be a useful addition to teams like Nashville or Anaheim. However, nothing official has been announced yet.
