The Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson is in a bit of a dilemma when it comes to defenceman Jake McCabe. With less then fives weeks until the NHL's trade deadline on March 3rd, Davidson has to decide if he wants to keep McCabe or move him for some picks and/or prospects.
The 27 year-old has become a fan favorite and leader in the dressing room. McCabe is also fairly cheap with a $4 million dollar annual salary and two years left on his contract, Davidson could keep McCabe if he chooses to help continue mentoring the young kids and deal McCabe when he's a pending UFA.
However, moving McCabe now would almost certainly mean a bigger return with 2 years left on his deal, rather than trading him to be a playoff rental. McCabe has 2 goals, and 12 assists in 45 games this season and averages around 19:20 in ice time for the Blackhawks this season.
If Davidson does move McCabe he would easily fit on team's 2nd or 3rd pairing, and is a very reliable penalty killer. McCabe would be perfect to add to a Stanley Cup contender as a shut down defender during the playoffs ,if the Blackhawks decided to move him, stay tuned...
