NHL Expansion talks are heating up
There are talks of the NHL expanding into the future and potentially adding another franchise.
The fact that TNT holds NHL rights and is located in Atlanta could bring about the expansion.
Friedman on TJMS talking Atlanta expansion: «There's a lot of people out there who really believe the Atlanta thing, especially with TNT being a rights holder, they're based in Atlanta, that's a very real thing»
This means that Atlanta may get a franchise before Quebec or Hamilton.
The Thrashers were the last team to play in Atlanta, from 1999 to 2011, before they became the reborn Winnipeg Jets.
Unfortunately, the Thrashers were not a very successful team, having only won their division once in 2006-2007 and holding an all-time record of a .447 winning percentage.
Despite this, Gary Bettman seems to have a strong interest in the sunbelt and is pushing for expansion into areas where the NHL has been multiple times.
