NHL Substance Abuse Program Recommends Goaltender to Leave The NHL
Despite the NHL initiating jersey ads, helmet ads and many other unliked things this off-season, the NHL has stepped up their game in another category. That category falls under the leagues substance abuse and behavioural program. In the past, it seemed like players had to reach out for assistance, such as Carey Price, who stated he reached out to the program to start his rehab for substance abuse, and the NHL handled it carefully.
This off-season the NHL has recommended the substance and abuse program to multiple players,
Alexandre Texier and now a goaltender of the Winnipeg Jets.
Mikhail Berdin is officially leaving the team to be closer to his family for the time being, the NHL substance abuse program recommended him to leave the league, and even granted him permission to play in the KHL (closer to home) for the time being.
Read the official report:
''NEWS: #NHLJets goalie Mikhail Berdin is leaving the club for the 2022/23 season to be closer to his family in Russia and will sign a one-year contract in the KHL, according to the player's agent.
The #GoJetsGo also announced that the player has been allowed to leave for the season in accordance with advice and recommendation from the NHL/NHLPA
Substance Abuse and Behavioural Health Assistance
Program. His rights will remain with the Jets and his contract will be deferred for the season.
Berdin is the second player this season to be granted such permission, following #CBJ's Alexandre Texier.''
