The Chicago Blackhawks are in a tough situation with defenseman Seth Jones, who wants to compete for a Stanley Cup, could GM Kyle Davidson find a solution?

The Chicago Blackhawks have $9.5 million problems, and all of them could be dealt with by trading Seth Jones.
While we won't deride his contributions to the Blackhawks lineup, there's something to be said about the loaded contract GM Stan Bowman gifted him.
To say it was an overpayment could be considered a fair assessment, as he's been past his prime.
Nevertheless, he's still found a way to become a solid defenseman in Chicago and mentored Alex Vlasic into the beast he is today.
Given Jones's career goals, a rebuild was never in the cards for the defenseman. That leads us to the next development, of Jones not formally requesting a trade.
But GM Kyle Davidson and Jones's Agent Pat Brisson have begun a discussion regarding the possibility of a trade.
«We all know the whole story and what happened when I got here,» Jones said. «I would like to give myself a chance to win in my career. I know that the money is not an easy thing to move, and that's what we're figuring out.

«If it happens, it happens. Obviously, while I'm here with the Blackhawks, they have my full effort [and] full attention to this team to try to get this team better.»
The difficulty of such a decision is the fact that Jones has a full no-movement clause( NMC) and carries a hefty $9.5 million cap hit.
If the Hawks find a suitor for Jones, they could find a way to retain half of his salary at a cost of $4.25 million until 2030. That would sweeten the deal for both parties, in addition to whatever assets Davidson can recoup for Bowman's failures.
While the March 7th trade deadline isn't far off, GM Kyle Davidson should be working the phones to clear Jones from the Blackhawks' salary cap if he isn't the veteran who will stay to anchor the team's young defense.
The Blackhawks will need to clear some space in order to keep the fresh defense prospects trickling in, including Artyom Levshunov, Sam Rinzel, and Kevin Korchinski just to name a few.
